Non-Insured Health Benefits (First Nations & Inuit)

The Non-Insured Health Benefits program is a federal program run by Indigenous Services Canada that helps eligible First Nations and Inuit clients with dental costs. If patients also hold a provincial or private plan, they should use that coverage first. NIHB assists with eligible costs left over. Express Scripts Canada processes the program’s dental claims.

NIHB Dental Coverage Amount & Fee Guide

NIHB dental fees in Ontario are set by the province’s NIHB Regional Dental Benefit Grid. When you are eligible, and we bill the program directly, there is no deductible and no co-payment on covered services. Express Scripts Canada publishes the current grid; we confirm the details that apply to your treatment beforehand.

Predetermination for Certain Services

A few treatments are covered but need predetermination, which means NIHB must review and approve the plan before treatment. Crowns and orthodontic treatment are common examples. Our office submits this request to Express Scripts Canada, then books your care after receiving the approval.
